Cottage with a View
Lossiemouth
2011

This extension to a circa 100 year old ground floor cottage, situated on a cliff with panoramic views of the North Sea, near Lossiemouth is predominantly used as a holiday home for a family from Ayrshire. The layout of the the new extension is formed by extended the two existing perpendicular wings of the cottage and linking these with a new lightweight glass and steel structure, with the aim of minimising the aesthetic impact of the existing building. In addition this unique approach to the extension is intended to create a central courtyard place which will provide some shelter from the prevailing wind from the sea and allow the family to make greater use of the external living areas. Internally the a new master bedroom, kitchen, utility and open plan dining room and family room are created, with the latter two rooms having the benefit of bifold doors running the length of the South and North elevations providing a room which can be fully opened during the summer months and also taking full advantage of the panoramic views afforded by the homes location.
